Creating a magazine app like Wired for the iPad

I was just browsing and came across Adobe’s Digital Publishing Platform….
It sounds awesome! I wonder how expensive it will be.
It looks like a really great way to create magazines for the iPad.
They have announced that it won’t be available until late Summer 2010 (American)….
But, you can follow their facebook and twitter for updates!
Are you interested in creating an iPad  magazine app?

I am!

I dunno… I’m wary of anything that proposes to make an iPhone app through anything but xcode. It just seems too risky to do anything that might get rejected by Apple. Especially on a platform made by Adobe given Apple’s current vendetta.

    Totally true!
I also thought this, I think that the Wired App has been a massive success – it’s one of my fave things on the iPad. It’s totally the perfect platform for magazine style interaction…

I read somewhere that adobe was looking at using HTML5 technology to do it… so that way it would be able to be web-based with just a shell of an app… atleast you could always have it as a web-based app if apple rejected it then!
Will just have to wait for the announcements I guess!

  3. InDesign CS5 and a content bundler output a .issue file. Previously we announced a publisher-branded content viewer which is used to display magazines like WIRED. You can read more about the workflow here http://blogs.adobe.com/digitalpublishing/2010/07/introducing_the_adobe_digital_magazine_workflow.html.

And if you’re really keen, keep an eye on this page http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/digitalpublishing/ (also check out the short video)

Thanks Andrew! Great link, hadn’t seen that one yet.

I will be keeping an eye on that page, I watched the video and it looks pretty straight forward to create magazines with interactive content. I really liked the interactive images that were in the Wired App – and also the video.

When this is released I will be interested to see if I can make an interactive version of my blog – http://makingstuffisfun.com …Magazines are my favourite thing on the iPad, so I would love to get some friends together and have a play with this technology.

Will definitely be excited to try it out when the lab version is available!
